Gov. Sarah Palin's Hacked E-Mail Account Raises Issues of Use of Personal E-mail for Government Business

I am appalled that someone had to gall to invade Gov. Sarah Palin's email account and posted personal photographs and email exchanges on a website called WikiLeaks.org. That was an invasion of privacy and I don't blame the McCain campaign for launching an investigation. This incident has, however, raised questions about the proprietary use of personal e-mail for government business. This latest incident is focusing new attention on the Troopergate scandal and Gov. Palin's use of personal e-mail for state business. As you will recall, in the Troopergate case, investigators have sifted through Palin's state e-mails for evidence about firing the commissioner, Walter Monegan, because he refused to take action against her brother-in-law, a state trooper then.

An Alaska activist has filed a Freedom of Information Act request seeking disclosure of e-mails from one of the governor's accounts, which led to the publication of the governor's personal e-mail address, gov.sarah@yahoo.com, now off-line in the aftermath of the hacking. According to media reports, one of the hacked e-mails involved an exchange in July with Alaska Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell, talking about a talk show host who had been critical of Parnell.

Another revealed that a friend whom Palin appointed to an advisory board on issues involving alcohol and drug abuse wrote to the governor Sunday saying was praying for Palin. "Don't let the negative press get you down!"

Okay, so here's my position, the governor or any elected official for that matter, should know better than to conduct state business using an unsecured email account and a personal e-mail account at that. If she is so careless as to do so, then this brings me to my final point. Doesn't this speak volumes to Sarah Palin's lack of experience? Picture her as a VP had this hacking not occurred. She'd probably be sending critical information via her personal email. Is this a chance we need to take with the "Dynamic Duo?" You be the judge....
