Texas Governor Rick Perry Asks Mike Huckabee to Drop Out of GOP Presidential Race

The secret surrounding which elected official had asked Mike Huckabee to drop out of the GOP presidential race has been revealed, but not by Huckabee who gracioulsy declined to disclose his name. Texas Governor Rick Perry, who is a supporter of John McCain, had asked Huckabee to drop out of the race for the good of the party. Huckabee confirmed he received the call, and said he didn’t take it seriously. “I told that him while I appreciated it, with all due respect, since he was already on someone else’s team that I had to discount his advice since he had a vested interest in my not winning and McCain winning,” he said. “Since he was endorsing my opponent, therecommendation rang a little hollow to me. Again it was a cordial conversation but not one that I would take seriously.”

Huckabee won the Kansas GOP caucuses Saturday, after telling the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, D.C., that morning, “I didn’t major in math …. I majored in miracles, and I still believe in them.” I guess that's the religious leader in him speaking. Rememeber when Jesus turned water into wine and stones into bread. Huckabee needs a miracle like that, to get the nomination. That is what makes Huckabee a scary person to be president, in my opinion. He would somehow interject his religion in everything that he would do as president. This further reinforces my position when he made the comment about changing the constitution where gay marriages were concerned. While I believe marriage should be between a man and a woman, do we need the constitution rewritten based on religious truths? I think not.

Perry placed the call to Huckabee after Mitt Romney pulled out of the race earlier in the week, leaving McCain the presumptive nominee. Huckabee won the Kansas GOP caucuses Saturday, after telling the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, D.C., that morning, “I didn’t major in math …. I majored in miracles, and I still believe in them.”

I absolutely hate John McCain's positions on many issues, but at this point, he has a major lead in the number of delegates in his corner and is going to be the nominee. So, I guess then, maybe Huckabee knows this but is just in it for the ride. He would make a good vice president though. I don't think we could possibly sink to a lower level as we have with the Bush/Cheney team.

You be the judge, just my thoughts.
