Civil rights icon, former Atlanta mayor and ambassador Andrew Young has endorsed Hillary Clinton to be the Democratic nominee for the upcoming presidential elections, partly on the grounds that she has the "support network" in place to run the country. He has also said that Barack Obama is too young to run for president. Well, I would rather young than dumb, as in the case of our current president--who has been known to muddle modern-day vocabulary and is living proof that anyone can become president with the right amount of money, connections and a ton of yes-people in your corner. While I don't agree with Young, hey, this is a free country and we can make our own choices. I believe that Hillary will be the nominee, but I am hoping that Obama will pull it off. Fundamentally, he is a good man with ambitious plans for the country. Yes, he is young, but that can be considered an asset rather than a flaw in the political process.
Young, in a media interview posted online, said that Hillary Clinton has her husband behind her and that "Bill is every bit as black as Barack." He further added, when asked, "I want Barack Obama to be president, in 2016." He also said that "There is a certain level of maturity... you've got to learn to take a certain amount of (expletive)."
"There are more black people that Bill and Hillary lean on," Young said. "You cannot be president alone. ... To put a brother in there by himself is to set him up for crucifixion. His time will come and the world will be ready for a visionary leadership." People have long felt that Clinton is the first "black" president and I must admit he has a charismatic personality, however, he had some real flaws, which included flip-flopping and fudging the truth. While this does not make him a bad person, Obama has proven to be a pretty decent person who has stood by his beliefs, such as speaking out against the war in Iraq from the beginning. The reality is that Bill Clinton is not black and never will, so let's cut the crap about his blackness.
Okay, I detect some senility creeping in.... I have long felt that Obama is a good person for the job, but I believe that the racial climate in the country would work against him. Maybe I am wrong because in the past several weeks, I have seen more whites throw their support behind him that I could have ever imagined. Maybe the good does outweigh the bad. Andy Young needs to lighten up a bit and stop calling Bill Clinton black.
